The Mayor 🏵️ of oslo.town

Hello 🌻

There are now over 1,000 people on and it's a joy to behold 📈

Last night I made some upgrades so we can have a nice, smooth running experience. ✨ This means running this site now costs approx. 900 Norwegian kroner per month. :cash_money_wings_fb:

If you wish to contribute to this cost, you can donate through :patreon: patreon.com/coxy/

And I'm going to look into accepting :vipps: payments in future.

@themayor Vipps would be awesome. Adoption rate many % higher than patreon. Still considering what patreon tier to use myself; they look so similar!

@themayor I mean, at least say «warmer and fuzzier feeling» for highest tier😉

@themayor Let say that for some reason the experience become costly, or you get killed by the real Mayor of Oslo during the duel, what happens to this Mastodon server and all the accounts, they just vanish, or are there some traces somewhere else?

Does Mastodon supports migrating to other servers with all your posts and content?

@Dbug If the site becomes too expensive to operate, then I am thinking to go through this process:

- Ask more frequently for donations

- Ask some rich people or businesses to sponsor the site (but not in return for advertising or influence)

- Make the site invite only (to limit growth and sustain costs)

- Give users at least 3 months of advance warning in case of shutting down - which gives people time to move.

You can migrate your account at any time here: oslo.town/settings/migration

@Dbug Oh, to add to the migration option: it takes your followers and following with you, redirects your old profile to your new one, but won't move across all your posts.

@themayor Ok, so basically you lose your posts, which is kind of a bummer.

Hopefully you can get sponsored by Oslo Kommune 😅

@themayor I visited your profile specifically to find this. I think the donate button ought to be in the site info pages, along with the faq, etc
