The actively forming star system lies in a dusty molecular cloud cataloged as Lynds 483, some 650 light-years distant toward the constellation Serpens Cauda. Responsible for the stunning bipolar outflows, the collapsing protostars have been blasting out collimated energetic jets of material over tens of thousands of years. Webb's high-resolution view shows the violence of star-formation in dramatic detail as twisting shock fronts expand and collide with slower, denser material. The premier close-up of the star-forming region spans less than 1/2 a light-year within dark nebula Lynds 483. <br><a href="https://webbtelescope.org/contents/news-releases/2025/news-2025-111" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">webbtelescope.org/contents/new</span><span class="invisible">s-releases/2025/news-2025-111</span></a><br><a href="https://science.nasa.gov/missions/webb/nasa-webb-wows-with-incredible-detail-in-actively-forming-star-system/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">science.nasa.gov/missions/webb</span><span class="invisible">/nasa-webb-wows-with-incredible-detail-in-actively-forming-star-system/</span></a><br><a href="https://webbtelescope.org/contents/media/images/2025/111/01JM0482S0M2GV0DHB9P76QK14" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">webbtelescope.org/contents/med</span><span class="invisible">ia/images/2025/111/01JM0482S0M2GV0DHB9P76QK14</span></a><br><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bipolar_outflow" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bipolar_</span><span class="invisible">outflow</span></a><br><a href="https://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/constellations/serpens.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">chandra.harvard.edu/photo/cons</span><span class="invisible">tellations/serpens.html</span></a></p><p><a href="https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap250313.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap250313.ht</span><span class="invisible">ml</span></a></p><p><a href="https://defcon.social/tags/space" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>space</span></a> <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/galaxy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>galaxy</span></a> <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/astrophotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>astrophotography</span></a> <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/photography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>photography</span></a> <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/science" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>science</span></a> <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/nature" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nature</span></a> <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/NASA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NASA</span></a> <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/ESA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ESA</span></a></p>

XF9Messier 101, also known as the Pinwheel Galaxy is a spiral galaxy far, far away. It's accompanied by the galaxy NGC 5474 (Lower left) which is distorted by the gravitational pull from the much larger Pinwheel Galaxy.<br> <br> This image is a combination of "regular" photograph and a filtered one which only shows hydrogen. This is why you can see these red veins which aren't that prominent on a regular photograph.<br> <br> This is the first serious attempt to capture something with my Newtonian telescope. As usual not everything went smooth and I had quite some trouble to get it to focus correctly. Also I had quite some trouble to pull the color out and it's still not where I would like it to be. Maybe I've done something wrong during color calibration or I need to change something with my telescope .. that I still need to figure out.<br> <br> Anyway I'm quite pleased with the details I've got.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/astrophotography?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#astrophotography</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/galaxy?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#galaxy</a>
