Buried. #australia ‘s Climate Risk Assessment

“No one is officially telling Australian people that we have officially passed 1.5°C…The question now is, how much below 2°C can we stay?”

#heat #flood #fire #food #shortages

“Most experts are saying we’re actually on track for 2.6-3°C. Now, that is catastrophic in some areas. So, I think it’s recklessly negligent of either major party to fail to properly inform the Australian people of the risk ahead.”

One can be pragmatic and claim that it’s not worth your money lobbying the Trump administration, because they are intransigent on climate policy (as in they don’t admit we need one)…

…but on the other hand, this is PRECISELY the moment that we need big money to be spent on promoting climate policy to counter the wrongheadedness of the Trump administration.

Steve Jobs famously said that you can’t cost-cut your way out of a predicament (Apple was in deep financial straits back then)—you have to INNOVATE your way out.

Assuming Gates actually wants to move the needle on climate solutions (and I believe he does to some extent), I think keeping his money in the program at this time has a greater chance of making an impact than during friendlier administrations.

"The reason I made the analogy between #FossilFuels & Nuclear Bomb #NonProliferation is because there was a time in our history where stockpiling nuclear weapons was considered what kept us safe. And that shifted over a decade, in no small part because of the campaign for nuclear treaties."

This article in the FT today about the astronomical valuations of a lot of #AI start-ups - most of which seem to have little idea of how they will make revenue let alone profits made me wonder: Google Graphcast , WeatherNext and other NWP applications of #MachineLearning have presumably cost hundreds of millions of dollars too, what could we have done with that money in the #weather and #climate space? Never mind the publicly funded weather services, who provided most of the training data for these services?

Zero Hour for the Climate & Nature Bill:

🚜 On 11 March, the Government announced a pause in nature-friendly farming payments—the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI).

👇 Here's why that’s disastrous for climate and nature. 🧵

Moon program, space engineering, all across the US. Fairchild, Douglas, Boeing, McDonnell. Texas Florida New York. Aerospace engineering. Much as German engineers built US intercontinental ballistic rockets.

This is a reversal, as science and engineering exit.

The only scientists left will be brainwashing and surveillance apps design.

This isnt a joke.

The unexpected rise in global levels is alarming, particularly for regional impacts around coastal cities, many of which are already experiencing more damaging #flooding.

"The head of the EPA has now labeled #climate science as “religion” +reframed the purpose of the EPA to “lower the cost of buying a car… & running a bus”!

EPA is now only protecting IDU…

Trump EPA said it'd repeal dozens of significant regs, incl. limits on pollution from tailpipes & smokestacks, protections for wetlands, & the legal basis to regulate GHG."
